Light as wood, solid as stone

The outer shell or cladding of your INDiPOD is made from precision-tooled basalt rock panelling. Each panel is incredibly lightweight (8mm thick), but because they are made from stone, they are also extremely durable and also provide excellent thermal insulation. The panels are impervious to moisture and are also UV-resistant. This prevents both thermal expansion and fading colours. It also has excellent acoustic properties, the dense, non-directional fibre structure, traps sound waves and dampens vibration to provide an enhanced noise reducing solution. The surface is also easy to clean because dirt has nowhere to grip.

Our philosophy

We wanted to create a home pod that was completely different to anything else available on the market. We wanted the INDiPOD to be a statement about individuality that was truly functional but tore up the rule book. For us, style, durability and sustainability were key components and the use of basalt cladding and galvanised steel frames play a central role in achieving this aim. Lastly, we wanted to create something special and of lasting quality and we believe the INDiPOD does exactly that in terms of lifespan, build quality and specification.

ROCK

Basalt is a 200 million year old volcanic rock that contains silica, iron and magnesium, as well as common minerals like olivine, pyroxene, and plagioclase. Basalt is the most common rock found on the Earth’s crust, as well as making up most of the ocean floor. Basalt rock is formed when the basaltic lava from the interior crust is exposed to the surface where it will rapidly cool.

Sustainability

Our main building materials have been chosen to have as little impact as possible on the environment. The rock panelled cladding is made from non-depletable volcanic rock and recycled material. The galvanised steel cassette framework produces minimal waste – any zinc that does not instantly form a coating on the metal remains in the galvanizing bath for re-use. The non-ferrous properties of the metal make it indefinitely recyclable without loss of physical or chemical properties.
